Second new building underway on UofL’s Shelby Campus
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville Foundation today broke ground on the second new office building on the University of Louisville’s Shelby Campus.
The building, known as 700 North Hurstbourne, is a joint venture between the UofL Foundation and NTS Development Company and follows the successful first building in the office and research park, 600 North Hurstbourne, which opened in 2012.
“Developing this underutilized property will bring new revenue to the foundation and university — revenue we desperately need for scholarships, research and infrastructure improvements to become a premier metropolitan research university,” said UofL President Dr. James Ramsey.
The 125,000 square foot, four-story building will be located at Hurstbourne Pkwy and Porter Place, just north of Shelbyville Road. The new building’s iconic, environmentally sensitive design will complement and expand on the innovative architectural vision delivered by the first building. 700 North Hurstbourne is expected to receive LEED certification for its energy and environmental efficiency and will include: abundant floor-to-ceiling and continuous glass to maximize natural light, cantilevering, high ceilings, 34,000 square foot floor plates, a recycling center, a conference center, an outdoor patio and night exterior LED lighting. 700 North will have ample, free parking.

Tenants of 600 North Hurstbourne include Churchill Downs Incorporated, Semonin Realtors, BKD Accountants, Stifel Nicolaus & Company, and A&R Logistics. 600 North was the first multi-tenant, speculative office building in Louisville to achieve LEED certification.
NTS is managing development, construction, leasing, operations and marketing of the new buildings. NTS has a 49 percent stake in both buildings and the UofL Foundation has a 51 percent share. When fully developed, the ShelbyHurst Office and Research Park is expected to have more than1.5 million square feet of space in multiple buildings.
KlingStubbins, the design firm for 600 North Hurstbourne, is designing the new building. Kelley Construction, Inc. is the construction manager.
