On Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., local law enforcement will host a Prescription Drug Take-Back event at the CVS/pharmacy location at 4249 Outer Loop Road in Louisville. The event will give Louisville-area residents the opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted, unused and expired prescription drugs. The event is being held in conjunction with the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.
According to the 2012 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), more than six million Americans abuse prescription drugs. That same study revealed nearly 70 percent of people abusing prescription pain relievers got them through friends or relatives, a statistic that includes raiding the family medicine cabinet.
The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible way to dispose of prescription medications, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of these drugs.
